Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?
It's easy to move around with a lightweight double pushchair, especially if you have children of different ages. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and down the steps.
This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also has adjustable reclining, large UPF 50+ canopy, and windows that peek out. It also comes with a smart frame that can expand in width to take a second seat and a compatible car seat(s).
Side-by-Side
The majority of the lightweight double pushchairs we've tested are side-by-side models and are generally recommended for children who can stand up without assistance since these models tend to lack car seat integration. However they do have a few advantages. Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both top choices that have adjustable recline in both seats, a huge canopy, and padded five-point harnesses. They're also easy to maneuver despite their bigger footprint and are perfect for parents who worry about fitting into doorways.

The Cybex Duet pushchair is unique because it features a unique frame that expands in width to allow for an additional child seat. This makes it slimmer than other pushchairs with side-by-side seating. It is able to fit through doors that are standard and is easy to maneuver on public transportation. It is also a jogger which is great for those who plan to use it with an infant car seat or a baby carrier.
Another great side-by-side, lightweight double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, which offers even more customization through a modular frame. It has a smart design that allows you to transform it into a single buggy or a double by adding 2 carrycots or car seats (it can even accommodate twins). It's a good option for families growing. The UPPAbaby umbrella stroller is one of the lightest, sexiest and most stylish available.
Try the egg2 which folds down to the size and weight of a small suitcase. It can be used as a single or double with the addition of 2 carrycots or infant car seats, and our home testers loved the sleek and easy it was to use even when stuffed with kids.
Although they're light double pushchairs side-by-side aren't foolproof. If your children are at the same age and stage, they might still argue over who gets to sit in which seat. And if they're taller than each other it could be that a tandem design might be better for them, as it will allow them to confront each other.
Tandem
While side-byside models are better suited to siblings with similar age group, tandem light double strollers come with their own charms. They can take a bigger car seat, and some have convertible seats or an additional carrycot that is located in the middle. They are bigger and are easier to get in and out of. However the baskets they use tend to be smaller than those on single buggies. They often have larger canopy, peekaboo windows and even padded leg cushions.
The iCandy Peach tandem is another excellent example of a light tandem that offers excellent value. The fabrics are less luxurious than those of some of our top-rated doubles. But, it looks great and is easy to use. Its one-handed folding is awe-inspiring. Although it takes some practice, Kirstie from our Lab described it as "genius". It can't be folded with the carrycot attached but the mechanism for attaching and taking it off it is simple and fast.
Tandem lightweight double pushchairs will generally make more precise turns than side-byside models, however they are more difficult to drive on bumps and uneven surfaces. They can also be a little slower to pick up speed and can be heavier to move, which can put strain on your back.
Another option is a convertible double buggy, that starts out as a single and then you can add adapters to make it into a double. It can have an additional seat or carrycot in front, or the children can be seated side-byside. Some of them also offer the option of incorporating a buggy board, which can help an older child keep up with younger siblings.
The Uppababy Vista V2 can be transformed into a twin-sized stroller by purchasing additional cocoons for PS59 each. The cocoons create a flat space for newborns. These can be placed side by side or attached to each other's faces and you can also use them in conjunction with the baby car seat that is included with the pushchair (as as long as you choose an appropriate one). These dual-use buggies are made from high-quality materials that can be used for many years without showing any wear. This means that they have a high resale price.
Single-to-Double
For families who love the outdoors and want to upgrade from a single stroller, this lightweight double buggy turns into a jogger thanks an impressive kit that comes with air-filled tyres, as well as all-wheel suspension. It also handles rough terrain well and it's a tandem triple that is ideal for twins or children of different age groups. It's also a good option for parents who want an elegant design that's as sleek as a single and is available in a range of fabrics.
We loved the way this iCandy model folds into itself with just one hand, making it really easy to master. It's heavier than other single-to double pushchairs, however our home tester Karolina says it's still very capable of maneuvering even with two toddlers inside and a carrycot.
You can purchase additional items such as the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) that are ideal for infants. The seats are comfortable for toddlers with high-quality headrests and lumbar supports. There are plenty of options for reclining, with the front seat being able to be adjusted to different positions and the rear seat having the option to recline.
The main drawback to this type of buggy is that it is generally wider overall than side-by-side doubles, which makes it harder to navigate through doorways and is difficult to manoeuvre up and down kerbs. The wheels and suspension of these models are generally good at coping with surfaces that are paved. They're also lighter than many side-by-sides which means you can have plenty of storage space. These strollers aren't easy to maneuver through supermarkets with narrow aisles and they can be difficult to carry a lot. It's a little easier to turn them around on the smallest curves of paths, but even this can be difficult. Some are more easy to turn than others models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.
Convertible
Convertible double pushchairs are great because they can be adjusted to the changing requirements of a family. Most of the time, they begin as single buggies and come with adapters that allow you to add a second child's chair or a carrycot (in some cases) an automobile seat to the frame. Some are able to be converted to a single when your child's older age begins to walk or chooses to ride a buggyboard.
One of the lightest double strollers on our list, this stylish tri-fold model is able to hold children as heavy as 40 pounds each and features a handy basket in between the seats for storage. The home testers loved the spacious canopy with peekaboo windows, multi-position reclining seats and front and rear suspensions for smoother rides on rough terrain. It also has a convenient parent cup holder and a large, easy-to access basket. However, they noted that the backs of the seats have pockets that are not big enough to accommodate anything more than a phone and keys.
This lightweight, high-end side-by-side is available in more than 20 different configurations. It also comes with a second chair and carrycot. It has a high-profile steering handlebar, rear and front suspensions to smooth out rough terrain and an ultra-compact fold that stands up on its own with straps to make it easy to transportation, and seven-inch front wheel with swivel locks as well as ten-inch back wheels with suspensions for a smoother ride. Pushchairs And Prams is that you'll need to purchase an additional car seat or baby carrier.
This multi-functional tandem is a top choice from our home testers due to its maneuverability and large shopping basket, which is accessible with both seats in the parent-facing position. Its light weight (about the same as some single pushchairs) makes it easy to move. Reversible seats mean you can switch them around to face either direction and the clever way that it connects a second seat or riding board to the rear is appreciated by many. Parents also admired that it accommodates infant carriers and car seat from multiple brands. This includes some that are not typically compatible with other double buggies.
